Overview

Black Executive Men (“BEM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a private membership platform for executive leaders. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to blackexecutivemen.com and the associated member and manager portals.

By creating an account or using our services, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account & profile information — your name, email address, title, company, industry, location, professional bio, LinkedIn URL, and profile photo.
  • Membership & activity information — event registrations, survey responses, messages you send within the platform, and opportunities you choose to submit or opt into.
  • Payment information — membership payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details; Stripe handles payment data under its own privacy policy.
  • Google account data — if you choose to connect your Google account (see “Google Calendar Integration” below), we access limited Google user data as described in that section.
  • Technical information — standard log data such as browser type and access times, used to operate and secure the service.

Google Calendar Integration & Google User Data

Our platform offers an optional feature that lets you add events you register for directly to your Google Calendar. This feature is entirely opt-in — it is only active if you explicitly connect your Google account.

When you connect your Google account, we request the following Google OAuth scopes:

  • openid and .../auth/userinfo.email — to identify which Google account you connected and associate it with your BEM account.
  • .../auth/calendar.events — to create events in your Google Calendar for the specific events you register for on our platform.

How we use this access: We use the calendar.events scope solely to insert the events you register for into your primary Google Calendar. We do not read, list, modify, share, or delete any of your existing calendar entries or any other calendars you have access to.

Storage: To add events on your behalf, we securely store a Google-issued refresh token associated with your account. This token is stored with restricted, service-role-only access and is never shared. You can disconnect your Google account at any time from your account settings, which removes the stored token.

Black Executive Men’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the membership platform;
  • Authenticate you and secure your account;
  • Display your profile within the member directory (subject to your visibility settings);
  • Process event registrations and, if connected, add events to your Google Calendar;
  • Send transactional and membership-related emails;
  • Process membership payments; and
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect the security of our platform.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us operate the platform, and only as needed to provide the service:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Resend — transactional and membership email delivery.
  • Google — calendar event creation, only if you connect your Google account.

Your profile information is visible to other verified members within the platform, subject to the visibility controls available in your settings. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BEM, our members, or others.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you disconnect your Google account, the associated Google token is deleted. If you close your membership, we delete or anonymize your personal information except where retention is required for legal, accounting, or security purposes.

Your Choices & Rights

  • You can review and update your profile information from your account settings.
  • You can control your directory visibility and email notification preferences.
  • You can disconnect your Google account at any time, which revokes our access and deletes the stored token.
  • You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the email below.

Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, restricted access controls, and row-level security on our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and continuously improve our safeguards.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated through the platform or by email where appropriate.
